About STARScience

The aim of this project is to support secondary level science teaching and learning across Europe, with its main focus on chemistry and physics.

The project aims to produce an online subject portal, in Physics and Chemistry, which will provide secondary school teachers with relevant, appropriate and timely resources to support their teaching. This portal will be structured in such a way that any resources made available are easily accessible and effective for very different user groups eg both teachers and pupils.

Project Partners:
The three partners involved in this project are the Dublin Institute of Technology, the London Metropolitan University and Sofia University in Bulgaria.

Funding:
This project is funded through the ODL and ICT in Education call, 2001 as part of the SOCRATES EU programme. The project is funded until June 2003.

Objectives:
The objectives of this project are:
  • With trainee science teachers and their mentors/tutors, identify themes that would be enhanced by multimedia
  • Establish national and transnational links among trainee science teachers
  • Establish appropriate multimedia materials to use with teachers and pupils
  • Trial and evaluate products
  • Establish a model of curriculum development sensitive to the needs of learners and takes full advantage of C&IT.
