Alkynes are unsaturated hydrocarbons containing triple bond between two adjacent carbon atoms. The general formula of the alkynes' series is CnH2n-2. There is analogy between the properties of alkenes and alkynes because of the pi-bond. The reactions of addition undergoes in two steps with consecutive cleavage of the two pi-bonds. The alkynes have weak acidic properties because of the increased polarity of the C-H bond next to the triple bond. They can undergo substitution reactions with metals.
